“50” lifestyle changes for a better YOU….

A Time for Everything: Changes are often necessary.

Ecclesiastes 3:1(NIV)

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

I know that many of us struggle each and every day with making healthier lifestyle choices. Sometimes everything is due to being so busy and stressed out with life in general. Other times it may be because of circumstances that we are in that has determined our choices.

NONE THE LESS EVERY DAY IS A STRUGGLE!

We need to make small changes to be prepared for the season that we are being brought into. With these simple lifestyle changes, you will be on your way to happy and healthy living.

CHANGES LEAD TO GROWTH!!!!

Below I have come up with “50” lifestyle changes that could help steer you in the right direction towards a better” YOU!” Write them down and apply them to your life today.

1. Wake up every day with Jesus.

~Instead of checking social media every morning once you roll out of bed, roll over and read a daily devotional of your choice. There are many apps that you can use. I use the crosswalk app each and every morning.

2. Do not skip breakfast.

I am a lover of coffee, but indulging in just a cup or two of coffee does not give you the necessary fuel you need to get you through your day. You need to have a sensible breakfast to boost your metabolism. Oatmeal is a great source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. If you do not like oatmeal, smoothies, protein shakes, eggs, toast and peanut butter, and fresh fruit are all great options as well. Just make time to eat something 🙂

3. Grab snacks for the day.

These snacks can be quick go-to power packs to help reduce hunger and prevent you from being “hangry.” You can make snack bags the night before and place them in your purse, briefcase, duffle bag, tote, or even place them in your car. I absolutely love almonds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, clementines, apples, almond butter and peanut butter. When you are hungry you feel depleted of energy and mind power. So get to making those snack bags and thank me later!

4. Say a prayer before walking out the door.

The morning rush can get you off course and full of distractions. If you take a few short minutes to say a prayer you can change your whole outlook on your day. We all have something to be thankful for!!!

5. Drink more water.

We have all heard this a million times, but truly this is something I live by. I have noticed a major change in my body and skin due to giving up soda pop of all kinds almost 7 years ago. I drink coffee, unsweetened green tea, unsweetened black tea and loads and loads of water every day.

6. Take vitamins.

I have a daily routine of getting up every morning and taking my vitamins and supplements. Now what I take may not work for you and of course, some will need to be approved by your doctor. But every person needs at-least a multivitamin. I take Flinstone complete vitamins. All jokes aside this vitamin is not made just for children. I assure you that your hair and nails will be so much healthier by taking these vitamins. I am b12 deficient and my body does not absorb b12 on its own so I take b12 by injection weekly, given by myself and I also take it orally.  I also take magnesium, fish oil, vitamin E, Evening primrose oil, folic acid, and calcium. But like I said, my routine may not work for you. You can research each of these supplements and talk with your doctor before consuming any of them.

7. Smile more.

I  know that this one may seem simple, but in all reality, we all need to smile more. Joy is something that shines through you! Putting a smile on your face even duting tough times shows that you have chosen joy. It proves to yourself and others that you lean on God for everything.

8. Be kind.

Plain and simple…be kind. We all have struggles and short comings! You may never truly know what someone else is going through and why they make have reacted to something the way they did. Take a few moments to think before you say something, do something or react to something. Choose kindness every time 🙂

9. Take 5-10 minutes a day to refresh your mind.

Step away from your desk, your co-workers, your kids, your husband, and/or your work area and re-group. Tension, stress, and worry can really get you down mentally and physically. Take a few minutes to relax and give yourself some time to focus.

10. Practice gratitude.

Practice being grateful for even the small things in your life. Even the small things have a purpose.

11. Laugh often.

Laughter is the best medicine and you can actually burn calories just by laughing. I love to laugh and be around anyone and everyone that can make me laugh.

12. Exercise.

You need to stay active! Exercise is a mental stress reliever for me. I run every day and during that time I clear my mind of everything that is holding me down or hindering me. There are so many activities for all ages to get involved in. Do what you are capable of doing to the best of your ability. Every activity even if it is a 10-minute walk every day will lead you to a healthier lifestyle.

13. DO something nice for someone else every day.

Simple acts of kindness have so many positive effects. You can do something as small as hold the door open for a stranger, let someone out in traffic, compliment someone, or buy a stranger in the coffee line a coffee. Every kind act matters.

14. Read the bible on your lunch break.

Reading God’s word is so very important! If it you only read one scripture a day, that is progress made. You can even write a scripture on a post-it note and place it where you can see it. That way the word is always near.

15. Stop wishing your life away.

We have all done this sometime in our lives. We wish we would be chosen for that promotion, we wish we had a different job, we wish for upcoming events such as vacations and so on. The key to growth is loving where you are now and loving the season you are in. You are being prepared for something greater, but God needs you embrace where you are now. Then you will be ready when something greater comes along.

16. Let go of the need to be perfect.

Man oh man this is a tough one! We all have some kind of sense about us that makes our minds go crazy if something does not work out perfectly. The thing is the only perfect person was Jesus, we all fall short. Things will work out according to God’s plans for us, not how we may want them to work out.

17. Challenge yourself each day.

It is healthy to challenge yourself each day. Try something new, think outside of the box, and learn something out of the ordinary. My daughter and I recently started taking ASL lessons (American sign language) it is has been challenging and exciting!

18. Let go of the past.

Let go of the “what if’s” and the coulda, shoulda….blah blah blah…The past is in the past. You need to focus your mind on where you are going, not where you have been. Jeremiah 29:11 reassures us of the plans God has for us.

19. Do more things that you love.

Take a dancing class…go skydiving…..take a cooking class…read a book…..go for a hike….just do something you LOVE!!!

20. Learn to say NO!

You need to say no sometimes, stop people pleasing and become a God pleaser!!!

21. Dream and dream big!

You do not want to disappoint the little girl that is still inside of you! Chase those dreams….follow your heart….and never give up on yourself!

22. Take a social media break once a week.

Sometimes you need to simply take a step back from social media in order to re-group. We tend to get sucked into things that are going on around us and those things can negatively impact your day.

23. Listen more, speak less.

This is one of my favorites! I think as you become a mature adult you learn that this is a very important quality. Listen and engage intently with others.

24. Get plenty of sleep.

I know this is a no-brainer, but some still need to be reminded how important sleep is. The house can be cleaned up tomorrow and your laundry can be put away the next day too. Do not overwhelm yourself with so much to do in one day. There is only so much time in a day…rest is important!

25. Keep a journal.

Write and write some more. Writing is a beautiful release for me…I have to write in order to stay sane..for real lol. Write things you feel, things you see and write down things you want to do.

26. Stop beating yourself up.

Stop putting yourself down and living a shameful life! You were created for so much more! Who cares what people may think about you or say about you! You are not your mistakes!!! You are a child of God and he loves you for you!!

27. Surround yourself with positive people.

We don’t need any negative Nancy’s here! You become like those around you, so pick your friends wisely 🙂

28. Walk with confidence.

Having confidence is not saying that you think you are better than anyone else. Showing confidence says that you know your worth, value, and you believe that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!

29. Make time for sit down meals.

Life is busy and all things hectic I know this all too well. But it is so important to make time to sit down as a family and engage in needed conversation. You can have a sit-down meal with whoever you choose, just set aside time for it.

30. Make your bed each day.

Making your bed gives you a sense of productivity. It will actually help you get into a better routine each day just by finishing this simple task.

31. Meal plan.

This will save you so much time and money! I started meal planning over 7 years ago and there is no way I could ever go back to my old routine. I meal plan each week ahead. That way I cut down on buying things we don’t eat or need. I usually cook 4-5 days a week depending on our schedules. We tend to eat out on most weekends due to family activities that are planned. Meal planning is such a life saver!

32. Remove sugar from your diet.

I started a low carb lifestyle almost 8 years ago due to being diagnosed with PCOS (Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome) PCOS has so many negative effects on our bodies and it causes women to be overweight. The weight gain is uncontrollable. It was not easy at first getting rid of the sugar, but I promise you that it is so worth it.

33. Spend more time outside.

Go for a walk…soak up some sun….go for a hike….stop and smell the roses….outside

34. Take time to think about a situation before you react to it.

We have all failed with this one. It is easy when you get upset to react with your emotions before you take a step back and assess the situation. Taking time to think before you speak will cause less time spent arguing and apologizing for saying things that you don’t mean.

35. Forgive those that have hurt you.

I know that we are all grown ups here, but holding onto past hurts and grudges will slowly kill you. You need to forgive those that have wronged you, offended you and who have hurt you. Forgive because Christ has forgiven you.

36. Stop worrying about what others think of you.

The only opinion of you that matters is God’s opinion of you. God says you are beautiful, chosen, loved, adored, and made in his image. What better compliment can you get??

37. Stretch each day and unwind.

Stretching is good for the mind, body, and soul. Take a breather and do some yoga!

38. Always be honest.

Honesty is the best policy. Lies cause you to feel shame, guilt and make you feel as if you need to hide. Just be honest and have a clear conscience when you lay down at night.

39. Be your silly unique self.

Stop pretending to be someone that you are not. That is exhausting!!! Be who God created YOU to be. That means do what you like, wear what you like, and embrace the beautiful side of yourself. There is nothing more beautiful other than authenticity 🙂

40. Take a bath and read a book.

Take time to relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Skip the shower and fill up the tub! Grab your favorite book and travel into the world of the unknown.

41. Set goals each month.

Make a list of goals, set them each month and then go crush them!!!

42. Dance like nobody’s watching.

Dance in your house while you are cleaning, grab a kid and take a twirl, dance in the rain with your husband, or even do the twist with your grandma! Just dance and live free!!

43. Enjoy ALONE time.

I know that this is sometimes easier said than done, but you need a few minutes of alone time each day. I don’t care if it is 10 minutes, make time for you. Read a devotional, study a chapter in the bible, draw, paint, or go inside your closet and eat your kid’s candy lol…just do something for you!

44. Believe in yourself.

Today start believing in your self!! You can do all things!!

45. Take the high road.

Instead of lashing out at the person that cut you off in traffic, decide to take the high road and say a small prayer for them instead. You have no idea what that person may be going through.

46. Pray together as a couple or a family.

Take time to pray together it will draw each of you closer to God and to each other.

47. Give yourself pep talks.

In this case, you can talk to yourself. Quote scriptures over yourself to remove fear, worry, stress, anxiety, and anything that tries to bring you down.

48. Roll the windows down, turn up the music and sing to the top of your lungs.

Enjoy each day and enjoy making memories. My kids love when I do this! We are carefree and like to have fun.

49. Forgive yourself.

Stop listening to what the devil is saying to you! Move on from the mistakes that you have made and forgive yourself. Let go and stop hindering your blessings!! God has you in the palm of his hands and he wants you to live an abundant life. He can’t move in your life if you are holding onto bad choices that you have made.

50. Soak in God’s presence.

Turn on some worship music and listen to God whisper sweet promises to you 🙂

  1. This list is wonderful! It’s practical and encouraging at the same time, and it’s all do-able! You’ve broken each point into items that though some could be a bit sensitive, it’s still from a place of loving kindness. Have you thought of creating a printable to download with your 50 points?
