PARENTS ARE CALLED TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THE WAY OF THE LORD…….
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a]may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
~It is our duty as parents to teach our children about God. It is not their children’s Pastors job, nor their Sunday school teachers job. The word of the Lord should be taught to them from your mouth, brought to life by your actions, and used as a way to guide them throughout their life.
Have you ever heard the phrase, Monkey see, Monkey Do?
If your children “see” you praying, reading your bible, studying the word, lifting your hands in honor of worshipping God, soaking in his presence, and simply being obedient to God’s word, then they will be prone to mimic what they see. In return, they will “do” as they see.
Your children are a bi-product of you, so what kind of example are you setting?
As a child, I was raised in a Christian home. I still remember like it was yesterday watching my Dad read God’s word. I would always go to him for all of my questions biblically related. I have been fascinated by God’s word every since I was a little girl. I actually first asked Jesus into my heart at the ripe ole’ age of 4.
I later at 14 -years old rededicated my life to Christ and asked him into my heart again due to not remembering if I said the prayer myself at 4 -years old. My Dad would always be sitting in his recliner studying God’s word and he would pray the most passionate prayers to God. It makes me emotional every time I hear him pray.
So by watching my Dad read the word, study the word, and pray passionate prayers, it made me want to know more about this guy named Jesus.
Like my Dad, my Mom also had a huge impact on my life and walk with Christ. My mom is very compassionate with a heart of pure gold. She would do anything for anybody! She also taught classes, was the director of our choir when I was younger, and I remember her praying. When she used to sing to me growing up the lullaby was “Jesus paid it all.” I can close my eyes and hum that song and I am immediately brought back to my childhood. She taught me how to be the wife and mother that I am today.
So by watching my mom teach, show compassion, pray and sing God’s word, and be a Godly wife & mother….I too have grown to love and apply all of those things into my own life.
Your children watch every move you make, don’t you want to train them up in the ways of the Lord?
6 Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
The word of the Lord found in the Holy Bible is the only source that you need in order to “train your children.” There is no other book out there that will steer them or you in the right direction other than the bible. You have to seek the Lord in all that you do.
I am not saying that parenting is easy and that you will not make mistakes because you will. Your children also need to see you fail. Yes, you read that right. Your children need to see you lean on God for everything. They need to see you pray for guidance!!
If they think that your life is perfect, then when they make a mistake, they will not feel comfortable coming to you, because you may put on the facade that you have your life altogether. You need to be vulnerable, open and honest with your children.
They need to see you applying God’s word to your own life!
We all make MISTAKES!!!!!!!!
Our children need to be taught forgiveness, grace, mercy and God’s unconditional love. Then when a mistake is made, they can come to you and you will both pray about it together. You have to open your heart up to your children and begin to listen to their voice because quite often God will speak to you through them.
WHOA>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SO MUCH TRUTH!!!
My husband and I have had the beautiful honor of baptizing both of our children. Though we are not perfect by any means, we strive very hard to train our children for a life spent with Jesus. In the end that is the ultimate goal, to see our children saved, honoring God and walking in the calling that God has placed on their life. We have a job as parents to do the best that we can do with God’s guidance. We will fail, we will not always make the right decisions, but God knows our hearts and our desires to please him.
The best way to teach your children is by your example:
Are you living up to your own GODLY POTENTIAL?
YOUR CHILDREN ARE WATCHING…...you…..
It’s ALL ABOUT....MONKEY SEE….MONKEY DO…..
BE BLESSED!!!!!K.D. RUSSELL
